Xinhuanet November 3 (by Correspondent Liu Hua) Chinese President Xi Jinping met with foreign delegates attending the 2nd "Understanding China" International Conference on November 3, and commented on China's reform and development prospects, its "Belt and Road" initiative and sponsorship of the G20 summit 2016, reiterating that the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation was the dream of the Chinese people, and socialism with Chinese characteristics we have been upholding proved the right path. China will adhere to peaceful development, stick to the development of new international relations featuring mutual respect, mutual benefit and win-win cooperation, and insist on building a harmonious and symbiotic community of common destiny through concerted efforts with the rest of the world.

Xi Jinping appreciated the contribution made by foreign delegates in facilitating exchange and cooperation between their respective countries and China, and stresses the importance of sincere resonance amongst people of all countries through in-depth frank interaction.

When talking about China's reform and development prospects, Xi pointed out that reform was the determinant of contemporary China’s destiny. Following the top-level design for comprehensively deepening the reform launched at the Third Plenary Session of 18th CPC Central Committee, a series of major reform tasks had been put forward at the Fifth Plenary Session, with strength and breadth never before. We will continue to deepen reform in various fields, adhere to the basic state policy of opening up, unswervingly pursue a mutually beneficial and win-win strategy for opening up, and leverage the world to fuel development, so that China's development can in turn benefit the world in a better way.

Xi stated that the Fifth Plenary Session clarified that China's economic development should be rooted in a philosophy of innovative, coordinated, green, open and shared development. Development goals in the next five years had been proposed, with new initiatives put forward to reduce carbon emissions, protect the environment and raise ecological civilization. New tasks had been assigned for safeguarding and improving people’s livelihood, and new arrangements had been made for deepening and enriching the opening up and assuming international responsibilities and obligations. Without pragmatic cooperation with the rest of the world, China would never accomplish the objectives set in its 13th Five-year Plan, which, once enforced, would bring more development opportunities for the world. We’re ready to share development opportunities and work with other countries for a better future.

Speaking of the "Belt and Road" initiative, Xi described it as an open, inclusive initiative adhering to the principle of shared benefits and common development out of joint discussion. Its implementation would help the countries along the routes to create demands and jobs, and enhance the overall recovery of the world economy. Currently, the “Belt and Road” momentum has taken shape, revealing a good prospect. The Chinese side is furthering cooperation among countries in the "Belt and Road" framework, seeking to co-create development opportunities for mutual benefit and a win-win situation.

When talking about China to host the G20 summit 2016, Xi listed the following objectives for the event: First, reach a positive consensus on solving prominent problems in the current world economy to promote its long-term stable growth, and take concrete actions; Second, the G20 mechanism should be better-established, with its status reinforced as the main platform for international economic cooperation so as to promote more equitable, inclusive and efficient global economic governance; Third, the parties concerned must properly handle their differences based on mutual understanding and mutual respect, sending to the world a positive signal of solidarity and cooperation among G20 member countries.

Speakers also included Ernesto Zedillo, former Mexican President and Chairman of the 21st Century Council, Nicolas Berggruen, Chairman of the Berggruen Institute, Goh Chok Tong, former prime minister of Singapore, Kevin Rudd, former Australian Prime Minister and Lawrence Summers, former US Treasury Secretary. In their opinion, China has become a vital force in the international community, where the world's future depends largely on China, and China's future is also closely related with the world. China's development has a positive meaning to the world, and the world community shows great interest in its "Belt and Road" initiative and its proposition of building new relations between big powers like China and the US; Meanwhile, the world needs a more accurate understanding of China, including its view on the current international order and major global issues. China has exhibited its determination to carry on reform and opening up, which is good news to the world.
