Chairman Zheng Bijian attended the 2nd International Forum on the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and Global Governance at Fudan University, Shanghai on October 14-15, 2018. He gave a keynote speech entitled “Belt and Road Initiative and the new opportunity for China” at the opening of the forum.

Chairman Zheng pointed out that The BRI and the embedded new strategy of open-up is a new great opportunity for China’s future growth. The BRI has built and is building a gigantic market. Exploration of the strength from this market and enhancement of its economic relationship with other parts of the world are two important instruments for China’s high-quality development. The BRI essentially reflects the demand of the new era of globalization, and will push global economic convergence to a higher level.

Chairman Zheng emphasized that the BRI fully demonstrates China’s idea of global governance to build a “community of shared interests and a shared future for mankind”. It creates a strong appeal to the world. Moreover, China, led by the Communist Party, has a tradition to fight and win a protracted war under conditions where opportunities and challenges coexist, meaning endurance. A strong appeal and endurance harbor tremendous power, and these two characteristics together bring about the greatest opportunity for China’s sustainable development.

As the Chairman of the committee, Chairman Zheng also attended the first meeting of the international advisory committee of Fudan Institute of Belt and Road and Global Governance and gave the institution several instructions.
